The Practice Committee
The CT Council on Adoption was formed in 1976 to monitor adoption practices in the state of Connecticut. As a volunteer group of professionals, adoptive/foster parents, Probate Judges, therapists, birthparents, and adoptees, we are able to hear about issues around the state, and we can act upon those issues without the major restraints of our various positions. The Practice committee has been one of the cornerstones of the CCA. The committee has taken leadership in providing updated information about adoption issues and practices and supported legislative bills pertaining to adoption.
The Practice Committee has prepared and published the following booklets for adoption professionals:
Child’s Life story, online
Guidelines for Legal risk Placement, online
What to Tell and Give Adopted Parents, online
Adoption Disruptions, printed
Guidelines for Open Adoption, online
Issues in Special Needs Adoptions for Mental Health Practitioners, printed
Most of the booklets are still available. However most are not current and instead of updating them, the Practice committee has established this website in order to provide current and important adoption information.
The Practice Committee meets monthly. We are a group of professionals dedicated Connecticut’s adoptive families and children. We welcome participants to join this interesting, energized and innovating group. New members are welcome! Email info@ctadopt.org for more information.
The Nominating Committee
The duty of the Nominating Committee is to recommend a slate of officers every two years, in the even-numbered years. The committee also fills any vacancies that occur and helps with nominating people for the annual CCA award.
The Program Committee
The program Committee plans for the statewide training program (conference) in November for Adoption Awareness Month, as well as the Annual Luncheon in June. Ideas are considered from CCA members, previous trainings, and committee suggestions. Meetings are typically held monthly or bimonthly at a central location in Connecticut. New members are welcome!
